UKIAH, 1/28/17—Traffic is currently back up almost to Redwood Valley north of Ukiah in the southbound lanes as CHP does traffic control after what seems to be a single-car collision with major injuries. The traffic incident page seems to indicate that two passengers needed medical assistance and a wrecker was called after a collision first reported around 12pm in the southbound lanes. Currently traffic controls are still in place to “collect evidence” according to the traffic incident page, although the vehicle has been cleared from the road. We are receiving reports of traffic backed up for at least a mile to the Redwood Valley exits, and readers are reporting what appears to be two vehicles that went off the side of a hill, with one nearly totaled with severe windshield damage. The incident seems to have occurred near the Calpella exit, we have reports of tow vehicles near the Lake Mendocino exit.
If you can, we recommend taking backroads if you are heading south towards Ukiah, although officers are currently on scene doing traffic controls.
We’ll update as more info becomes available.
