MENDOCINO Co., 4/5/17 — This winter’s storms have wreaked havoc on roads throughout the North Coast, with landslides and sinkholes cutting off more remote residents from town or changing an hour long commute into a day long trip. Many of the more remote rural roads in the county have not yet been fully repaired, but on March 10, the Mendocino County Department completed the installation of a temporary “Bailey bridge” to cover the 60 foot gap on Orr Springs Road that opened up in early February.
The road will still require permanent repairs, but for now, you can drive over Orr Springs Road from Ukiah to the coast thanks to the temporary bridge. We’ve made a short video posted below so you can see the bridge, and for more details about its installation, read our coverage here.

I LOVE the video. Great soundtrack. Cool bridge, too.
I wrote a poem called The Green Bridge. Here it is. Tara Sufiana
THE GREEN BRIDGE
The transition between town and country
is now more clearly defines.
by crossing the newly installed Green Bridge,
where orr Springs road had slipped away,
during the torrential rains of the winter of 2017.
I like the feeling of ‘crossing over’,
from a busy town of traffic and commerce,
int the beauty, peace and quiet,
that Nature still provides,
in the coastal range mountains of northern California.
This bridge for me, also represents,
crossing over from the world at large,
to my own private sanctuary,
carved lightly into the wilderness,
where mountain lions still roam,
and condors, hawks and eagles still fly.
