CalFire mopping up grass fire in Covelo

The blaze has now been contained and fire fighters are mopping up.

MENDOCINO CO., 7/08/17 — A roughly one acre grass fire that sprung up in Covelo has been contained by CalFire and the Covelo Fire Department. The fire destroyed one outbuilding and damaged a phone cable near Foothill Blvd.

According to scanner traffic, at about 1:55pm fire fighters had reported that the fire has been contained though about two hours of “mopping up,” will be necessary to ensure all flames have been extinguished.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.

Mendocinosportsplus first reported the fire at around 1:45pm, noting that a column of black smoke was visible and the blaze was estimated to be about an acre in size. Ten minutes later, fire fighters were reporting the fire was contained and utility companies were being contacted about the damaged cable. Here’s his post:
