MENDOCINO Co., 7/17/18 — One woman died and a 12 year old boy was injured after their vehicle rolled off an embankment on State Route 128 yesterday, after they had pulled over on a shoulder to assist with moving items out of the road. Both were passengers in the vehicle. The woman, Patricia Sanz Munoz, 45, of Reading, England, was found dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle. The boy, Luis Parsons, received moderate injuries.
According to a California Highway Patrol press release, the accident occurred around 3 p.m., when three people from Reading, England were driving in a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe up a steep incline on Route 128, when they encountered another car that had “spilled bails of dirt” in the roadway. Both vehicles pulled over and the driver of the Hyundai, Chris Parsons, 45, got out to assist with clearing the road. At that point, for reasons being investigated, the Hyundai began to roll backwards down the incline and across the shoulder, ultimately going off the shoulder and down a steep embankment, resulting in the death of Munoz and injuring Parsons. Parsons was transported to Oakland Children’s Hospital for his injuries.
Drugs and alcohol were determined not to be a factor in this collision, but the incident is still under investigation.
