MENDOCINO Co., 8/10/18 — Here in Mendocino, we’re lucky to live in a place where delicious and locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and artisan treats are all around us — and farmers that come to town every week so we can get our fill. If you haven’t been to a farmers’ market recently, here’s the list of times and locations — or you can go to Ukiah this weekend and help the farmers’ celebrate.
This weekend, the farmers market takes place in Ukiah from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, as they are year-round, at Alex Thomas Plaza. The Power of Produce Club will also be there, with fun educational activities about food, and $4 of market money for each kid in “market money” they can use to buy their favorite food from local farmers.
On Sunday, the Mendocino County Farmers’ Market Association will celebrate its 40th anniversary during the concert in the park, by providing salad mix, fruits, flowers, and more for your picnic as you enjoy a free performance from The Stone Foxes with Aliyah Sade, part of the Sunday in the Park concert series. Farmers will also be around so you can say hi, or pick up a coupon for next week’s Ukiah market. The concert will take place at Todd Grove park beginning at 6 p.m.
If you can’t make it this weekend, farmers’ markets take place in Laytonville, Willits, Ukiah, Redwood Valley, Mendocino, and Fort Bragg every week — here’s the complete list — you can go and thank a local farmer and enjoy some local produce! Many of the farmers’ markets have a “market match” program for CalFresh recipients where you can double your dollars and support local farms. Right now, the summer season is in full effect and there’s a bounty of different things available.
