UPDATED 10/20/18 — The final acreage for the Carley incident is 27 acres, and the fire is now entirely contained.
WILLITS, 10/19/18 — A controlled burn near Covelo escaped today, burning up to around 15 acres, however, it was quickly contained by firefighters and air support from Cal Fire and the Covelo Fire Department. As of 6:00 p.m. the fire is about 70% contained* though resources have been cancelled, firefighters sent home, and forward progress stopped. Some personnel will remain to mop up.
The fire burned in the south end of the Valley and was called the Carley Incident. Around the same time one person was airlifted to the hospital, possibility for smoke inhalation — it is not clear if the two things are related.
It is also unclear if this fire was still and active burn, or a re-ignition from the burn a couple days ago.
*Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that the fire had been contained at 6:00 p.m., when in fact at that time the fire was only mostly controlled, with forward progress stopped, but had not been officially contained.
