Add to the Mendo Voice outage map if you can. Just drop a pin, say where you are in the name of the pin, and then give a short description. We hope this will help everyone better understand the contours of the outage:

UPDATE 6:55 a.m. — As of this morning the area around Lake Mendocino and along the 101 corridor up to the top of the Ridgewood Grade is out. Potter Valley is out. Hopland and surrounding areas is out. Piercy and Leggett area dark. Ukiah and Willits proper remain on. This list is not exhaustive, and we will work on a getting out a more thorough list in a couple hours.
UPDATE 3:34 a.m. — Hopland is also out now.
UPDATE 3:15 a.m. — The outages have hit Mendocino County. PG&E’s outage map is showing purple polygons of outage. One is a swath surrounding Lake Mendocino and then traveling up the 101 corridor, through Redwood Valley up to the top of the Ridgewood Grade. Readers tell us that Vichy Springs Rd. also lost power. The other blob envelops Potter Valley, and travels a bit east on Highway 20.
Also affected are areas around Santa Rosa, and farther east, as well as in Marin County near the coast. And in Humboldt County what had been labeled as unplanned outages are now labeled as planned outages. Huge portions of Humboldt County are out, along the 101 corridor and then out along the 299.
UPDATE 1:17 a.m. — Since our last update the PG&E has shut-off power in Rohnert Park, parts of Lake County, in the towns of Napa and Sonoma, and south of St. Helena.
Additionally, readers are reporting power outages in Calistoga, Arcata, McKinleyville, Lakeport, Blue Lakes, and Kelseyville. The PG&E map shows non-planned outages all down the 101 corridor form Myers Flat in Humboldt County to Leggett. Likewise there are a set of unplanned outages swooping across Lake County from Lower Lake to Upper Lake.
What we have noticed is that PG&E has listed some of those outages, but not as a “PSPS,” a public safety power shut-off. PG&E seems to be making some distinction internally between outages that are part of their plan, and outages that are…unplanned? Maybe accidental? We really don’t know, and to the people living through the outage it must be all the same.

WILLITS, 10/9/19 — As of 12:30 a.m. the lights remain on in most of the North Coast, and Pacific Gas & Electric’s outage website is still working. Ironically, their site has been experiencing outages all day. That specific map can be found at this link, and shows the planned outages, the so-called “public safety power shut-offs,” in purple.
Hopefully you’ve all done your preparation, and are ready in case your power does go out. We’ll continue to update as the power outage hits our area, and then we plan on driving to various locations to show you where you can find resources if your power is out, and ways to help.
We’ll also continue to get you information about PG&E’s plans.
Also, we’ve decided to do a little experiment and create our own map, in case PG&E’s goes down. This map is publically editable, just drop a pin and say whether your power is on or off and any other details such as time. If you don’t know how to use the map, just comment below or on the Facebook post for this article and we’ll drop the pin for you. This way we hope to crowdsource a map in case PG&E’s fails. (If you’d prefer, please let us know your specific location and time of shut-off in the comments).
As of 12:40 a.m. significant areas of the Foothills region and Sierra have lost power, as have eastern Sacramento suburbs. Closer to home, portions of western Sonoma County, as well as areas in Napa and Yolo have been shut down. PG&E stated earlier today that they would be implementing the shut-off in a stages, cascading south down the state with the winds and weather.
As you can see from these maps that the National Weather Service offices in the Bay Area and Sacramento tweeted out, the strongest wind gusts will be to the south and east of us, but we could still have gusts of 30 mph in the southeastern portions of Mendocino County:

I live on Road Bout the Redwood Valley way, and as of 8:26 AM this morning, we still have power at my house. I don’t know if this applies to everyone up Road B or not.

How dare PGE make their inadequacies and failures at maintaining their equipment, the responsibility of the consumers. However, having to pay the millions upon millions of dollars for their neglect, which is far from enough, would only go without saying, that the consumers would be the ones, once again, to be those that suffer, be it higher rates or no power at all. Should be criminal. Quite frankly, should not even be allowed to happen in the first place.

Power still on, east side of Redwood Valley, on Road I, as of 6:53 PM, Wednesday. Although we believe we are adequately prepared for an outage, we’ll be quite happy if we are missed by it.
