Caltrans will install conduit on priority projects to increase rural access.
California Assembly Member Jim Wood spoke to the supes yesterday about legislative accomplishments, goals, and each supe’s top priorities.
A federal program to fund rural broadband is coming on strong, but a state grant-making program faces an uncertain future.
Libraries, development of infrastructure, and consolidation of the county’s workforce alliance were on the agenda of the last meeting.
This release was issued Monday Aug. 29, 2016, by the office of Assemblyman Jim Wood. “SACRAMENTO – Today Assemblymember Jim Wood’s (D-Healdsburg) legislation to improve access to broadband technology, AB 1549, is on its way to the Governor’s office. This bill would require the state Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to notify companies and organizations working on broadband deployment, such as the Redwood Coast Connect Consortium and the Broadband Alliance of Mendocino County, of projects that involve construction methods suitable for installing broadband conduit and to place these notifications on the Caltrans website. It would also allow interested companies and organizations to collaborate with Caltrans to install broadband conduit as part of each project.
