A reader’s view of Greenfield Fire from south of Willits
MENDOCINO Co., 6/27/17 — A roughly one acre grass fire is burning in Redwood Valley, near the Greenfield Ranch area. A CalFire spokesperson said that the fire is spreading slowly and that she expected it to be contained fairly quickly. The 101 Attack Helicopter was the first unite by the scene, and Ukiah Valley Fire, and Redwood Valley Fire also responded. In addition inmate handcrews were dispatch and a dozer.
The fire is spreading slowly and CalFire expects to have it contained quickly.
The location was apparently somewhat difficult to access, but the helicopter unit managed to get a start on the fire while other crews made their way on the ground. Tankers were initially dispatched, but have been released. Ground crews are continuing to fight the fire.
